Once upon a time the beaver was a wide spread animal in Europe. Their way of building their home was so cleaver so they had very little enemies….. But, however clever an animal is…. The humankind has always been one step ahead. One day, around a campfire somewhere in Europe, one person decided that the beaver is a fish! -A fish?... –Yes, a creature that spends most of its life under water and have a home under the water.Should be defined as a fish. -Yes of course! When the beaver suddenly became a fish it gave even more excuses to hunt the beaver. Suddenly the humans had a delicacy to eat during the fasting month.

This ended up with the bever becoming almost extinct in Europe only a 100 years ago. Almost, I said because in Åmli the beaver was still swimming around in the fresh water. They had forest enough because timber was one of Åmlis main industries at that time. It was enough trees to serve both beavers and humans. It was enough clean water coming from the beautiful mountain. It was enough nature, flowers, birds, moose, deers, foxes and wolfs to create a beautiful place.

And it still is.
Your power in our nature......
We want you to help us make a beaver creation. Land art, I dare to say. We give out all beaver pieces we have in different shape and forms to a lot of different people, from different places in this world, all with different ideas and creation skills. As a carrier of a piece of the land art, you can choose to come to Pan Garden Hillestad or Vindilhytta.
At those two places you will be able to borrow a wood burner. With this you burn your name, your country and the date you arrive on your beaver stick. You maybe want to write a message to the world on your stick as well… It’s up to you… After that you place it somewhere in the beaver area. Together you will create something witch is going to be a spectacular creation. And I believe it will be a rather discussed piece of land art made from people all over the world, and signed by each person who helped us to create the beaver land art.
Welcome to Åmli!
